TimeRequiredForEqualNetProfit = DragonHarpoonPrice / HourlyProfitDifferential Using this hourly profit differential, we can calculate the amount of time required for both methods to become equal in terms of NET profit: The hourly profit differential of Regular & Dragon Harpoon fishing is 1/6 of 167,700 or 27,950 GP per hour (HourlyProfitDifferential = DragonHarpoonProfitPerHour - RegularHarpoonProfitPerHour) Regular Harpoon fishing is 16.666% slower than Dragon Harpoon fishing It would take 70 minutes of Regular Harpoon fishing to reach the same gross profit of Dragon Harpoon fishing. 833% of Dragon Harpoon fishing in terms of GP & XP yeilds With this basic comparison of rates we find that: GrossProfitRatio = DragonHarpoonProfitPerHour / RegularHarpoonProfitPerHour To calculate the time required to reach the same amount of GROSS profit with a Regular Harpoon compared to a Dragon Harpoon we must set up a ratio: The profit per hour with the Regular Harpoon is 139,750 The profit per hour with Dragon Harpoon is 167,700 With current prices & at 99 Fishing we find that: DragonHarpoonProfitPerHour = (DragonHarpoonCaughtPerHour) * (RawSharkPrice) DragonHarpoonCaughtPerHour = (RegularHarpoonCaughtPerHour) * (1.2) RegularHarpoonProfitPerHour = (RegularHarpoonCaughtPerHour) * (RawSharkPrice) RegularHarpoonCaughtPerHour = CaughtPerHourAt99 When making a comparison between the hourly profit rates with & without Dragon Harpoon, we must first calculate the basic catch & profit rates: One should take in to consideration its hefty price tag. The 20% boost may be misleading when measuring the effectiveness of Dragon Harpoon fishing compared to standard Harpoon fishing. This means that using a Regular harpoon for the same amount of time (76.3 hours) still profits more GP than using a Dragon Harpoon (About 10,666,666 more GP to be precise). While the Dragon Harpoon may increase catch rates by 20% (Or even slightly more factoring in the +3 fishing boost from the Special attack), fishing with a standard Harpoon is instantaneously more net profit due to not having to invest 12m gp (or more) just for the ability to use it.Ī Dragon Harpoon, as of current pricing, costs ~12.8m, so it would take ~76.3 hours of shark fishing to make back the money it costs to purchase a Dragon Harpoon. And you would also have to risk the chance of its price crashing (or possibly rising). So what does this mean? Well it means that you have to fish for 12m gp or more just to break even from purchasing the harpoon. However it costs over 12m & is high in demand since the announcement of the release of a Fishing Guild revision. It offers 20% faster catch rates for all 'Harpoon' fishing spot activities including Sharks & Swordfish and even has a Special attack ability that temporarily increases Fishing level by +3. It is used by many high-leveled players and fishing alts for some side GP/XP, but is it even worth it? The Dragon Harpoon is a fishing item that is a possible reward from completing a Xerician Raid.
